A Lousy Sunday afternoon started with nothing much to do. Chennai got back to normalcy with temperature in race with petrol prices. I was sitting in my bed room wondering whether my terrace was in sync with the boiling point of water.
When no cricket on TV, I usually switch to Internet. I completed my usual web work, a doze of Yahoo, a sneak peek of Orkut and Facebook, a conscious eye balling of office mails through the OWS and a quick glance on Cinemas. Surprisingly, Sathyam showed some empty seats for “Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaya”- a new tamil flick. I highlighted the best 2 seats in the top row and followed the “Pay pal” procedures. In a minute, my mobile blinked a confirmation code. Yes, I got the movie tickets.
10:15 PM –Sathyam – we settled down in our cushions. Nice view and better ambience made us feel comfortable. It was hard for me to believe that I have spent some bugs for watching a “Simbhu” special at one of the best theatres in Chennai. Have I gone mad!?
The movie started with some scenic backwaters of Alapey. The God’s own country has never disappointed any lens men. The titles floated through the waters as I swallowed my last spoon of butterscotch cream.
Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaya – a story about lovers – directed by the smart Gautam Menon. This guy has always impressed with his uniqueness in screening the usual stuff. He always attracts the youngsters with his crisp screenplay and stylish Picturization. As the movie picked up pace, I started getting involved. It was a perfect narration of inconsistency between lovers, the thought process of a confused female and the eagerness of an excited male. The movie has lot of details in it. A usual love story in Indian languages always shows the intimacy between lovers, their telepathy thoughts and their common challenges. This movie is different. It shows the variations in the thought process between the HE and SHE. The unstable mind of over cautious female has been captured beautifully. Good Job Gautam !
Simbhu and Trisha justify their roles and have complemented each other beautifully. Simbhu, for a change seems to have lost his “Simbhuism” and have listened to what the Director wants. However, one cannot fail to notice his usual self dominating the Director’s hero at times. Thanks to Gautham. He has handled this over rated Hero very well. Simbhu has managed to win a PAT for controlling his self prowess disasters and looks calm. Trisha springs a surprise with her elegant looks and simple make ups. A very matured portrayal blending beautifully into the character is the plus point of this movie. Trisha scores more points.
Mr. Rahman – the magician again proves why he is so precious. Terrific background score and mesmerizing songs adds lot of value to this film. “Mannipaya” by Shreya with Rahman streaming through with his husy voice leaves you motionless. What a song!!
I felt completely satisfied after 3 hours. My money didn't go wasted. The drive back home was filled with harmony. Empty roads and my i10’s AC made me feel lite. Even CSK 5th loss got digested by this silent celluloid magic. Thank you Gautam Vasudev Menon!
